Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine has an immediate sense of luxury. Developed plum and dark chocolate dominate the aroma, with layers of caramelized wood and subtle hints of vanilla. A true representation of the Sullivan Estate and the Rutherford appellation, this wine shows classic signs of the savory Rutherford dust. While a masculine wine, there is elegance and depth with resolved tannins giving the sense of cocoa powder flowing across the palate. A broad, juicy quality evokes a sense of pleasure, which makes this wine hard to put down. Enjoy now or for years to come.
Awards
97 Points - Anthony Dias Blue. "Intense garnet color. Lush, toasty nose, velvety and rich with smooth plum and boysenberry fruit. Fine acid structure and notes of vanilla, toast and spice, licorice, chocolate and mocha; this is a knockout wine that shows what a great vineyard can effect."
Vineyard Notes
Consistency and uniformity are the two words that best sum up the 2013 vintage. A warm dry spring brought on early bud break and allowed for even flowering. The early start permitted for vigorous canopy development and optimal berry set. Even temperatures throughout the season caused the vines to ripen the fruit easily and on time. Most of the early ripening varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay began being harvested a few weeks earlier than normal. There were a couple of warm spells, and a few small rain events that had minimal effect on ripening and quality. With that said, the warm sunny weather allowed the grapes to stay on the vines as long as necessary, which allowed optimal development of color and flavors. Most Cabernet was picked starting at the end of September and finishing in late October. Overall it was an outstanding vintage.
