Vineyards & Winemaking
Speaking to the power of Jim Sullivan's vision, the Sullivan Estate is home to the best of the world’s vineyards soil types, a diversity unheard of for an estate this size. The diversity of soils has allowed Sullivan Vineyards & Winery to cultivate its vision of estate grown quality wines.
From pleasant loam with heavy and medium clay to sandy gravel, the 21-acres that make up the heart of Sullivan's offer ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Chardonnay. All with the complexity, quality, and richness that define a true Rutherford experience.
In addition to the diversity of soils, our vineyard’s small size ensures the quality of Sullivan Esatte wines. Our ability to farm and manage the Estates to finetune pruning and harvesting translates into every glass of Sullivan wine.
As Director of Winemaking, Jeff Cole brings his technical expertise, and hands-on care into both the Sullivan Vineyards and Winery. A Napa native, growing up in Yountville, Jeff was surrounded by the industry that would ultimately become his passion. Seeking to ground his passion in real-world experience, he graduated with a Wine and Viticulture degree from California Polytechnic University in 2006, while he worked for both Laetitia Winery and Windward Vineyards. Prior to joining Sullivan Vineyards, Jeff was the assistant winemaker at Schramsberg Vineyards. Jeff became part of the Sullivan's team in 2013.
As winemaker, Scott McLeod brings to Sullivan Vineyards & Winemaking a wealth of experience, and clarity of vision. Working previously in Italy's Chianti region, Scott developed a singular obsession: to make wine from the vineyard based exclusively on the care and diversity of the estate itself. It's the approach of a classic European winery—an estate vineyard based exclusively on terroir. Sc
ott's ability to translate this approach in California has already been proven. Previously, Scott served as head winemaker for Rubicon Estate for 18 years, and was named Winemaker of the Year for 2009 by The Wine Enthusiast. Beginning with the 2012 vintage, Scott brings his passion for winemaking, talent and expertise to Sullivan Vineyards as our consulting winemaker.
