The Art of Authenticity

Jim and JoAnna’s search for the ideal piece of earth from which both their family and vines would grow was rewarded beyond their wildest dreams. The Sullivan Estate is home to half of the world’s soil types. A diversity of soil almost unheard of for our size. A diversity that has allowed us to maintain our focus on estate grown wines.

From pleasant loam with heavy and medium clay to sandy gravel, the 26-acres that make up the metaphorical and geographical heart of our family offer ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay varietals. All with the unmistakable earthy undertones that define a true Rutherford experience.

While the uncommon diversity of earth provides abundance of varietals, our vineyard’s relatively small, contiguous nature offers advantages of its own. Our ability to closely monitor and manage every vine enables the use of differential techniques in both growing and harvesting.

Age of the root stock. Fruit size. Variety. Clone. Whether the cluster is on the North or South side of the vine. Orientation on the property. Climate. Every element that could effect the character and maturity of the fruit is meticulously considered to ensure it is harvested at its absolute peak.
