Wine Profile
Production Notes
Consistency and uniformity are the two words that best sum up the 2013 vintage. A warm dry spring brought on early bud break, and allowed for even flowering. The early start permitted for vigorous canopy development and optimal berry set. Even temperatures throughout the season caused the vines to ripen the fruit easily and on time. Most of the early ripening varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay began being harvested a few weeks earlier than normal. There were a couple of warm spells, and a few small rain events that had minimal effect on ripening and quality. With that said, the warm sunny weather allowed the grapes to stay on the vines as long as necessary, which allowed optimal development of color and flavors. Most Cabernet was picked starting at the end of September and finishing in late October. Overall it was an outstanding vintage.
Winemaker Notes
There is a Brightness of raspberry that fades into savory dark chocolate. Subtle hints of vanilla and cocoa powder give way to the signature dusty character that has made Rutherford famous. Big tannins have resolved to give this wine a powerful, dense core, which complements the darker fruits such as plum and cherry. There is a depth, and a focus to the acidity that lengthens the palate, and carries the wine through the finish. This wine defines the vintage and displays the elegance and power that can be created from the Rutherford appellation.
